The Household Hazardous Electronic Waste Collection Program provides for proper disposal of hazardous materials that might otherwise end up in landfills or wastewater treatment facilities. The program also provides personnel with the proper training and equipment to mitigate a leak, spill or other release of hazardous or toxic materials in our jurisdiction. Approximately 3600 citizens use this facility each year. The Department’s Battalion C is responsible for the operation of the program, whose responsibilities include:

Operation and Maintenance of the Household Hazardous Collection Site.

Collection, categorization, lab packaging and storage of Household Hazardous Waste Collection for proper disposal.

Provide training and equipment to operate an Emergency Hazardous Material Response Team.

What is Hazardous Waste?
Any material or mixture of waste which is corrosive, poisonous, flammable, combustible, caustic, volatile, explosive, an irritant, a strong sensitizer, or toxic.
What Major Problems Do They Cause?
- Harmful to humans and animals, will cause injury.
- Discharge to sewers alters bacterial balance in sewage treatment plan, may not neutralize, pollutes effluent.
- Groundwater contamination, by runoff or seepage, pollutes drinking water.

Directions: I-10 Freeway to Tennessee, exit Tennessee south. One block south on Tennessee (cross Redlands Boulevard) to Park Avenue. Right on Park Avenue to Kansas St. Located at the corner of Kansas Street and Park Avenue.
