New Year’s Day assault suspect jailed for witness intimidation
A 48-year-old
Paul Lentz was arrested the morning of Jan. 1 after he severely beat his 38-year-old former girlfriend before fleeing her apartment, naked and bloody from his own injuries sustained during the assault.
Lentz posted bond and was released several days later when charges were reduced from attempted murder to assault and his bail was also reduced from $1 million to $100,000. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.
On Feb. 17, Lentz began calling the victim, seeking money to cover his bail and attorney fees and demanding to know why she continued to press charges.
On Tuesday, Feb. 19, Lentz again called the victim and at about 10 p.m. he showed up at her door. The woman refused to open the door and called police, and Lentz eventually left.

After pulling over, Lentz exited the vehicle and began walking toward the officer with his hands behind his back. After Lentz refused commands to stop and show his hands, the officer used his Taser to subdue the suspect and took him into custody.
