Redlands-based energy efficiency firm receives Green award

10/27/2009 - Redlands-based energy efficiency firm receives Green award

EnerPath, a Redlands company that works throughout the U.S. and Canada to help homeowners and businesses become more energy efficient, received the Mayor’s Green Action Award this month.

Green Action awards are an initiative started by Mayor Jon Harrison to honor individuals and organizations around the City who have implemented programs to reduce their impact on the environment and contribute to a sustainable future for the City.

Mayor Harrison presented the award to EnerPath CEO Stephen Guthrie at the company’s Redlands office recently.

EnerPath, which has called Redlands home for nearly 20 years, developed systems and software that streamline the process of energy audits so that homeowners can immediately see how investing in lighting and other equipment can save them money. EnerPath’s model is particularly effective in communities that do not have expertise in navigating their way through labyrinthine federal procurement systems and complex grant-writing procedures. The company also coordinates financing programs that frequently tap into a variety of funding sources.

“Our goal is to help communities produce meaningful and measurable savings for small businesses and homeowners alike,” Guthrie said.

Using hand-held PDAs, auditors quickly determine what improvements make sense for each participant; the devices also tell customers how much money they will save from investing in energy efficiency measures.

Once the audit is completed, customers can authorize the installation of new lighting fixtures and other energy efficient equipment on the spot. The company also makes a point of hiring local subcontractors to install energy-efficient equipment and appliances, weatherize homes and retrofit buildings, and perform other green jobs.

“We try to make energy efficiency as easy as possible,” Guthrie said.
