Driver injured in single-vehicle rollover collision
2/4/2010 - Driver injured in single-vehicle rollover collision
One person was injured and traffic was diverted for more than an hour on a portion of southbound University Street after a single-vehicle rollover collision Thursday morning.
Redlands Police and Firefighters responded to the collision on University Street, just north of Cypress Avenue, at about 6:40 a.m. Thursday.
On arrival, firefighters discovered the driver, a 20-year-old Redlands man, trapped in the vehicle, a Dodge Neon. It took 10 firefighters approximately 30 minutes, using hydraulic rescue tools and the Jaws of Life, to extricate the driver from the damaged vehicle.
Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle on a curve, jumping a curb and rolling the vehicle before colliding with a tree in the front yard of a home there.
The victim sustained moderate head injuries and was transported by paramedics to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Southbound traffic on the section of University Street between Citrus and Cypress avenues was diverted onto Lytle Street for more than an hour.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
