Suspect in Las Vegas robbery, murder attempt arrested
6/15/2009 - Suspect in Las Vegas robbery, murder attempt arrested
Redlands Police on Saturday arrested a suspect wanted by Las Vegas police for robbery and attempted murder.
Redlands Police initially contacted 35-year-old Jose Zavela on June 8 when he reported that he was the victim of an assault. At the time Zavela gave police a false name and birth date.
Through investigation, police determined Zavela’s true name and learned he had two felony warrants for his arrest for robbery and attempted murder from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. Zavela was also listed as armed and dangerous.
At about noon Saturday, Redlands Police learned that Zavela was at a tire store in the 400 block of West Colton Avenue. Police set up a perimeter around the store. As officers arrived, Zavela ran out of the store and over a wall into an alley where police were waiting.
In addition to the Nevada warrants, Zavela was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was arrested on drug possession charges. He was transported to Central Detention Center in San Bernardino. Two other suspects were also arrested for drug possession and additional warrants.
