Five arrested for DUI over New Year’s holiday weekend
1/4/2012 - Five arrested for DUI over New Year’s holiday weekend
Five people were arrested for driving under the influence over the New Year’s holiday weekend.
Three people were arrested during a grant-funded sobriety checkpoint Friday, Dec. 30, in the northbound lanes of Orange Street at Pearl Avenue. Three-hundred seventeen vehicles passed through the checkpoint between 10 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday. In addition to the three DUI arrests, two drivers were cited for driving without a license, one for driving on a suspended license. Another driver was arrested on a DUI warrant.
A 28-year-old man was arrested shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve for driving under the influence after crashing his 2005 Jeep Wrangler, hitting five parked cars before overturning his own vehicle in the 300 block of East Pennsylvania Avenue. A 32-year-old man was arrested just after midnight Jan. 1 for driving under the influence after crashing his 2007 Toyota Tacoma into a block wall near Pine Avenue and Tamarisk Street. Both men were treated for minor injuries.
The national Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over crackdown is led by the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and NHTSA, with the California Avoid DUI Task Force Campaign combining high-visibility enforcement and heightened public awareness through publicity. Funding for sobriety checkpoints and targeted patrols is provided through an OTS grant.
